Gee Ngugi

Gee Ngugi is a doctoral student in the Departments of African and African American Studies & History at Harvard University. Her research focuses on the history of gender, mobility and intimacy in the Indian Ocean. She combines fragmentary archival material and interdisciplinary methodologies—Black feminist theory, critical memory and archival studies, among others—to center people from the Swahili coast of East Africa and explore how they navigate(d) the terrain of slavery and its afterlife.
